What is David Fravor known for?

David Fravor is a retired US Navy commander and F/A-18 pilot. In November 2004 he commanded Strike Fighter Squadron 41, the Black Aces, aboard the USS Nimitz.

On November 14, 2004, during a training exercise off southern California, he was sent to check radar returns that the cruiser USS Princeton had been tracking. By his account, he, pilot Alex Dietrich and two weapons systems officers watched a white, oval object about 40 feet long hovering over disturbed water. He says that when he spiraled down toward it, it rose to meet him, mirrored his path and then disappeared. A later flight recorded an infrared clip, the 'FLIR1' or Tic Tac video, which the Defense Department officially released in 2020.

Fravor testified before a House Oversight subcommittee on July 26, 2023, describing the object as having no wings, rotors or visible means of propulsion and saying its technology was far beyond anything the US had. The Pentagon has described such objects only as unidentified; no official explanation has been published for this case.
