What is The Pentagon known for?

The Pentagon, in Arlington County, Virginia, is the headquarters of the US Department of Defense. Built between 1941 and 1943, it is one of the world's largest office buildings, and its name is shorthand for the US military leadership.

The Pentagon has been the source of many official statements on UFOs. In July 1952 Air Force generals held a large press briefing there on the Washington sightings. In April 2020 the Department of Defense officially released three Navy videos, including the 2004 'Tic Tac' footage. In 2022 it set up the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) to study unidentified anomalous phenomena.

AARO's 2024 historical review of US government UFO records back to 1945 found no evidence of extraterrestrial technology or of a hidden program to recover alien craft. The Pentagon has rejected claims made by whistleblower David Grusch at the 2023 House hearing, while saying many reported objects remain unidentified.
