What is Jet Propulsion Laboratory known for?

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in southern California grew out of rocket experiments by Caltech students in 1936. It became a US Army research centre in the Second World War and was transferred to the newly created NASA in 1958. It is a federally funded research centre managed by Caltech and builds and runs most of NASA's robotic planetary missions, from the Voyager probes to the Mars rovers.

JPL turns up in the history of US government psychic research. Accounts of the SRI remote-viewing program say the CIA was not its only early sponsor: NASA, through JPL, also supported some of the research in the 1970s, in connection with studies of possible psychic communication.

The scale of that support was small, and JPL's main work has always been engineering and space science.

Why it is on Credible Theories

NASA, through JPL, is named as one of the sponsors of the SRI psychic research.
