The Reset: The Flood in Babylon, Israel, Persia and Beyond
The Flood · story date: c. 3114–3102 BCE, when the Maya and Indian calendars both start a new age
This series asks what history looks like if the old texts are records, not myths. Each claim rests on a quoted text. It is a reading, not an established fact.
The council votes to wipe the slate. The Flood is in Babylon, Israel, India, Greece, Persia, China and Mexico. It comes with fire from the sky too: an Egyptian priest says the Phaethon myth really records "a declination of the bodies moving in the heavens," the Chinese remember the pillars of the sky breaking, and Herodotus's priests say the sun twice rose where it now sets.
Someone always leaks the plan. Enki whispers it to Atrahasis through the reed wall of his house so he technically breaks no oath. Yima is told to build an underground enclosure lit by "created lights." Xisuthrus is told to bury the records of "the beginning, procedure, and conclusion of all things" at Sippar. And Noah, the survivor, may not be fully human: his own father saw the newborn light up the room and feared he was a Watcher's child.
The rebel Watchers are bound under the earth for seventy generations. The giants kill each other, but their spirits cannot die.
What the texts say

There are uncreated lights and created lights.
He is not like man, but resembling the sons of the God of heaven.
Bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgement.
A declination of the bodies moving in the heavens around the earth, and a great conflagration.
